Recognized for Innovative Use of Open Source and Mobile to Improve
Well-being in Mexico
RALEIGH, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source
solutions, announced recently that SEDESOL Oportunidades, which strives
to improve human development and well-being among the people of Mexico,
has been named the 2014 Red Hat Innovator of the Year. The honor was
bestowed on SEDESOL Oportunidades during the recent Red
Hat Summit.
SEDESOL Oportunidades was recognized because of the organization's
innovative and effective use of Red Hat solutions. The organization used
Red Hat's tools to cost-effectively deploy a government survey on mobile
devices while validating responses in real-time. The research provided
SEDESOL Oportunidades with information that could help in promoting
equality and overcoming poverty in Mexico.
Red Hat Summit 2014 attendees and the online community selected SEDESOL
Oportunidades for the award out of a pool of five finalists, all of
which use open source to bring innovation to their respective
industries. The other finalists included the Centre for Railway
Information Systems; Nanyang Technological University; Hennepin Home
Health Care; and OSDE Binario. Each of these organizations use Red Hat
solutions, such as Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure and Red Hat JBoss
Middleware, across a wide range of industries, including transportation,
education, and healthcare.

"So many companies are using Red Hat solutions in innovative and highly
effective ways that it becomes increasingly difficult to select just one
as Red Hat Innovator of the Year. SEDESOL Oportunidades rose to the top
because of the way the organization used a unique combination of Red
Hat's open source solutions and mobile to make a difference in Mexico.
We're excited to recognize the great work of SEDESOL Oportunidades and
